A Day in the Life at Our Children’s Center — Unnati Udaan Foundation

At Unnati Udaan Foundation, every day is a new opportunity to nurture dreams, ignite hope, and create lasting change. Our Children’s Center is not just a place where children come to learn — it’s a vibrant space where they feel safe, loved, and empowered. Through education, nutrition, emotional support, and creative activities, we ensure that each child who walks through our doors receives the care and attention they deserve.

Come along as we walk you through a typical day at the Unnati Udaan Children’s Center!

8:00 AM – A Warm Welcome and a Healthy Start

As the sun rises, our team of dedicated volunteers and staff prepare to welcome the children. The air is filled with the cheerful noise of greetings and laughter. Some children arrive shyly, others run into the arms of their favorite mentors.

Every child is first given a warm breakfast — a nourishing meal carefully prepared to meet their nutritional needs. Many of our children come from backgrounds where food insecurity is a daily reality, so providing healthy meals is a crucial part of our program.

Breakfast menu example:

  1. Fresh fruits
  2. Whole grain porridge or upma
  3. Milk or buttermilk
  4. Boiled eggs or sprout

A full stomach ensures they are ready to start the day with energy and focus.

9:00 AM – Learning Begins

After breakfast, the children move to their classrooms, where structured learning activities begin. Our curriculum is a blend of formal education, life skills, and creative expression.

Our professional teachers, along with volunteers, focus on:

  • Basic Literacy and Numeracy: Helping children strengthen their reading, writing, and math skills.

  • STEM Workshops: Encouraging curiosity through fun science experiments and computer classes.

  • Language Development: English communication classes that build confidence.

What makes learning at Unnati Udaan special is the personalized attention every child receives. Small class sizes allow our educators to understand each child’s unique needs and learning style, ensuring no one is left behind.

11:30 AM – Break Time and Free Play

Children are natural explorers, and free play is vital to their development. After a morning of focused learning, it’s time to recharge.

Our center has a safe, open space where kids can play outdoor games like football, kabaddi, cricket, or just enjoy swings and slides. There’s also an indoor corner for puzzles, storytelling, and board games for those who prefer quieter activities.

Playtime is not just about fun — it teaches teamwork, resilience, and leadership skills, building the emotional intelligence needed for life beyond the center.

12:30 PM – Lunchtime: Nutrition for Growth

By midday, appetites are high! Our kitchen serves a wholesome lunch packed with nutrients essential for growing bodies and minds.
Typical lunch menu:

  • Rice and dal

  • Mixed vegetable sabzi

  • Roti

  • Seasonal fruits

Our nutrition program is designed in consultation with healthcare professionals to ensure children get a balanced diet that combats malnutrition and supports healthy development. Lunchtime is also a joyful social gathering. Children sit together, share stories, and practice habits like gratitude and mindfulness before meals.

1:30 PM – Creative Time and Skill Building

Post-lunch sessions are all about creativity and exploration. Here, children get to express themselves through:

  • Art and Craft: Painting, origami, clay modeling, and recycled art projects.

  • Music and Dance: Singing local songs, learning musical instruments, and practicing traditional dances.

  • Drama and Role-Play: Building confidence and empathy through storytelling and drama activities.

These creative sessions are vital for holistic development. They allow children to discover talents, overcome shyness, and build self-esteem — essential tools for their futures.

3:00 PM – Life Skills and Values Education

Education at Unnati Udaan Foundation goes beyond textbooks. We place a strong emphasis on teaching life skills that prepare children for adulthood.

Workshops and activities focus on:

  • Hygiene and health awareness

  • Financial literacy (basic saving concepts)

  • Environmental responsibility (tree planting, waste management)

  • Gender equality and respect

  • Conflict resolution and leadership

By learning these essential skills early, our children are better equipped to navigate real-world challenges with confidence and resilience.

4:00 PM – Farewell with Hope for Tomorrow

As parents arrive to pick up their children, the center buzzes once again with activity. Children leave with smiles, carrying not just books and crafts but also confidence, new ideas, and memories made with friends.
Before heading home, every child is given a light snack for the road — a fruit or a sandwich — ensuring that even the journey home is made with care.
Staff and volunteers spend time debriefing about the day, planning for tomorrow, and identifying children who may need extra support.
